That friend who brags about you wherever she goes.

I picked up a camera in high school after realising I couldn’t quite capture what I wanted with a paintbrush. After a year abroad, I studied photography at Photography Studies College with a major in Photojournalism. After interning for Fairfax Weekly papers, I worked for the Fairfax News publications for over five years. Eventually, I transitioned into full-time freelance work; shockingly, I have been at this for over 15 years.

My creative approach— is to find the humanity— to connect with the person or people at the heart of the assignment. Meeting new people fuels my fire, and I rarely can’t connect on a deep level with someone. My heart sings when I find the root of the story or problem and can work with a client to build something tangible that will translate to a broader audience.

While consistent in its raw and honest nature, my style of working with clients is highly individualised to ensure I stay within your brand guidelines and is reflective of the story you are telling.

Every job is different, and while I love being behind the camera to work one-on-one, I also collaborate on larger commissions to build a team of creative specialists. Whatever it takes to tell your story.

Many of the stories I have covered I do not share publicly on my website or social media. This is often due to the client’s request, sensitive subject matter, or the people and subjects within my work. I respect the many and varied reasons for this.

I believe in ethical and participatory storytelling.

Participatory storytelling is a strengths-based method of working with people and their stories. Ensuring they actively make decisions throughout the process is crucial in assuring meaningful, ethical, and effective communication.

For me, ethics in visual storytelling are based on two primary principles.

Consent: Consent is a complex topic for many, but to be open, transparent, flexible and approachable enough to treat consent as an ongoing agreement and that participants/subjects remain empowered participants in making decisions throughout a project.

Raw and True: Having begun my career as a photojournalist, I have a deep commitment to telling honest stories. Often, in more commercial settings where fiction or an element of art is involved, this is not the case. Still, I strive to create stories that participants believe accurately depict their experiences for any documentary work.

A little more personal

I absolutely love being outdoors in any kind of nature, but there is something particular about being on the edge of the land - the smell, sounds and feel of being at the beach gets me good.

I am incredibly lucky to have two little humans who inspire me daily and keep everything real.

My other guilty pleasures are music, art, books, coffee, wine, beers, and damn good food, best shared with my partner, family and friends.
